To start simply with a familiar statement, we can apprehend that, “we face day to day problem and then find out some reasons that cause the problem, ponder upon some probable solutions that can best solve out later through our logical and analytical reasoning”.Same is the designing process of a research hypothesis. Thus, Research hypothesis can be defined as an educated prediction about any study that gives direction and helps in focusing on the solution by making the problem unambiguous.
Need of forming a hypothesis –The hypothesis is based on collective knowledge about the topic and is formed on the basis of guesses and many variables that are interdependent. Thus, hypotheses are formed in order to obtain a correct explanation of the problem by having a more generalized overview of relative variables.
Furthermore, such generalized inference can be obtained through different forms of hypothesis formed on the basis of the identified problem. Thus, various types of the hypothesis are- Simple hypothesis, complex hypothesis, the null hypothesis, empirical hypothesis, logical hypothesis, statistical hypothesis and alternative hypothesis are used to obtain a refined solution of the issues.
Some discern of different forms of hypothesis- Simple hypothesis –Where two variables independent and other dependent exist together, it is known as a simple hypothesis.
For example – Smoking causes Tuberculosis.
Complex hypothesis –Where dependent and independent variables are more than two. For example – Smoking leads to tuberculosis, cancer, and hypertension.
Empirical hypothesis- When a hypothesis is applied to a field, it is called as working or empirical hypothesis.
Null hypothesis- Where there is no relationship known between dependent and independent variable.
Alternative hypothesis –When most effective hypotheses are selected among many presents, it is known as an alternative hypothesis.
Logical hypothesis –When the hypothesis is verified logically on the scale of residue, agreement, disagreement, and difference.
Statistical hypothesis –When a hypothesis is verified statistically it is known as a Statistical hypothesis.
Formulation of hypothesis –Have detailed knowledge about the problem and a clear objective.
Work on a new way of finding a solution to the problem rather than following the traditional ones.
Formulate a hypothesis by thinking out of boundary.
Ponder on many alternative hypotheses.
Conduct study and search for the best-suited hypothesis
Reach up to the conclusion by analyzing all possible causes and their best possible solution.
Analyze result along with the validation of hypothesis.
Thus, hypothesis helps in narrowing the study and achieving the meticulous result out of it.
